Carvings are gilt in some fashion, but the gilding is largely rubbed away. The top back wooden panel of each slides down, there is a tab on the back of each to lock the sliding "window" in place. They are light, so I think they are bamboo. Scenes look kind of like Kabuki, but I am far, far from knowledgable. Other scenes are of flowers and of birds. What are these?
