Description: This is very heavy metal (about 50 pounds). The inside shows intense burning of the metal or perhaps acid marks. The antique store labeled it as an ash box, but this would be impractical for ash. The spout in the front suggests that it was used to pour something out of it, or to make space for a tool which would stick out of it. Thanks a million for your suggestion, Francois-Marie Patorni in New Mexico, fmpatorni[at]earthlink.net, 505-984-9125
