Description: About 5” long and around ¾” diameter at its widest, I have no idea as to what purpose this turned, hollow wooden curio could serve.

Along the body, there are 20 holes, irregularly spaced and not aligned, but broadly around 90° apart from each other in four columns of five.
There is an incised detail at the tip and a scribed line around the circumference about 1½” from the tip.

The other end separates to expose the centre of the body, hollowed to about ½”.

The separated end is turned to a fluted tip with a small hole down to a hollowed centre of around ¼” where it joins the main body.

It looks as if the device would hold a cigarette perfectly and act as some sort of furtive smoking device, but there are no signs or smells of tobacco at all, which suggests that if this was the purpose, it remained unused.

Another thought I had was that it may be some sort of yarn spinning device, with many fine threads being fed through the body to emerge at the small hole at the end, but again, there are no signs of thread or wear and in any case, the dimensions make it seem impractical.

Any ideas as to it’s purpose?
