looks like cast iron,it comes apart in the middle with a kind of hingeand tab that turns to keep the ball together.has a hanger for string on top.i have no idea what this thing is.the lady at the yard sale said she found it near and old house place from the 1800s and used it for popperrea .kind of looks like a xmas ornament
